Leeming Youth Set to Shine

At just 15 years of age, talented young Leeming musician James Van de Ven can certainly belt out a tune. See him perform at the Kings Park Festival.

WAYJOFrom the age of seven, when he first picked up a guitar, he has been grooming his musical skills to finally settle on playing the trombone and for the past three years he has been playing alongside some of the State’s best young jazz musicians as part of the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra.

WAYJO has provided James and many other up-and-coming young musicians with the training to play at a professional standard and the opportunity to perform at festivals, social events and clubs around the metro area as well as alongside award-winning guest artists including Kate Ceberano and Kristin Berardi.

Being involved in the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra provides young musicians with the confidence to venture out and create their own bands and, hopefully, follow their dreams of being a leading musician in the industry.

WAYJO will bring its big brass sound to the Kings Park Botanic Garden on Sunday 26 September to celebrate Spring as part of the free Santos Live Sunday Series of entertainment throughout September.

Marty Pervan, the WAYJO Musical Director, along with James, will present a morning of top quality jazz from 10.30pm-12.30pm which will be followed by One For All Big Band (1.00 pm - 2.30 pm) and The Town of Victoria Park Swing Shift Band (3.00 pm - 5.00 pm). There will also be a free theatre show for the kids.
