Expansion works have commenced in preparation for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting Leader’s Retreat in October 2011.
Further to the January announcement that Kings Park and Botanic Garden will host the CHOGM later this year, the following works have been identified:
Restaurant, Cafe and Landscape Works
Restaurant Extension
Works have commenced on a stunning new permanent extension to the upper level of the Fraser's Restaurant complex for completion by 31 August 2011.
This State Government funded initiative will result in a high quality function facility overlooking Perth and the Swan River. The expanded facility will host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting Leaders’ Retreat in October 2011.
The completed facility will be suitable for community, corporate and government events and will become a long-term asset for the Perth community and for Western Australians generally.
Cafe and Landscape Improvements
A new outdoor seating area will be created in front of The Botanical Cafe to provide affordable BYO alfresco dining and maximise the outstanding views over Perth and the Swan River.
The Kings Park Floral Clock will be relocated from its current position to make way for the development, and will be re-installed nearer the Botanic Garden entry in early 2012. Landscape works will provide improved universal access to visitor facilities, new seating, lighting and garden areas.
Open for Business
During the works Fraser's Restaurant, The Botanical Cafe, Kings Park Kiosk, Aspects of Kings Park and the Visitor Information Centre will be open for business.
There will be some restrictions to pedestrian access for safety reasons during construction. There may also be some construction noise and dust at various times.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during the works.
