This Annual Report highlights the important work of the Authority’s dedicated staff and volunteers, and details achievements over the 2011/12 year and the Authority’s objectives for 2012/13.

One of the many highlights for 2011/12 was the opening of the Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park facility for environmental discovery and learning, in October 2011. Its completion marked the culmination of three years of planning and construction, generously supported by project partners Rio Tinto, the Perth Solar City program, Water Corporation and Lotterywest; through the Friends of Kings Park.

Another key initiative was the opening of the State Reception Centre, which was commemmorated with a tree planting by the Prime Minister of Australia the Hon Julia Gillard MP and His Excellency Mr Kamalesh Sharma, Commonwealth Secretary-General. The venue was established in time for the CHOGM Leaders’ Retreat held in King Park in October 2011.

Other significant achievements for the year included the opening of the Kings Park Education building; another successful Kings Park Festival in 2012 with major partner, Santos; the strengthening of international partnerships between the Authority and Middle Eastern consultancies; and outstanding ongoing work in scientific research, horticultural management and displays and bushland restoration work in both Bold Park and Kings Park and Botanic Garden.

The report can be downloaded in full or by sections, along with previous annual reports.
