Ten years ago the Perth skyline changed forever with the lighting up of Kings Park for the very first time.

Today the lights continue to shine brightly over Perth marking special occasions throughout the year. On 1 December 1998, then Minister responsible for Western Power, Colin Barnett officially turned on the 'up lights' that illuminate the natural beauty of the trunks and canopies of the Lemon-scented Gums (Corymbia citriodora) that line Fraser Avenue in Kings Park.

The lights have become an icon of Perth's night scene and a major tourist attraction. From 1 December to 6 January, the lights will be turned on in multi-colours to celebrate the Christmas season.

A gift to the people of Western Australia, the Kings Park Lights are presented by the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority and sponsored by Channel Seven Perth and Synergy.
