Kings Park and Botanic Garden has a number of grassed areas and parkland suitable for outdoor exercise and is an extremely popular venue for fitness groups and personal trainers.

The use of Kings Park is free for groups of up to 25 participants, however, bookings are essential for all visits. Booking approvals can be granted for a maximum six month period and organisers are required to provide proof of public liability during this period.

Conditions of Use

Kings Park and Botanic Garden is an A class reserve. To ensure that proposed activities do not impact on the conservation values of Kings Park and Botanic Garden, visitors and nearby residents, there are strict conditions in place that must be adhered to. It is important that organisers carefully read and comply with the Conditions of Use for Sport and Fitness Activities in Kings Park and Botanic Garden as specified in the Application Pack. In particular, organisers should note the conditions below.

Fitness training activities are not permitted in the Western Australian Botanic Garden or the State War Memorial Precinct. In addition, Jacobs Ladder is not within Kings Park - it is owned and managed by Perth City Council. Parking in Kings Park for the use of Jacobs Ladder is prohibited and fines will apply. Please refer to the parking guide for further information.

Failure to comply with the Conditions of Use may result in a penalty of up $1500 and/or the fitness trainer being prohibited from operating in Kings Park and Botanic Garden.

Structured fitness training or sporting activities are not permitted in the State War Memorial precinct, the Botanic Garden or off tracks in the Bushland and are restricted to certain areas within the park. Fitness groups have access to the Exhibition Ground, Kings Park Road precinct, Hale Oval, Saw Avenue, DNA Tower Area and Broadwalk Vista, Synergy Parkland, Fraser Avenue Lawn and Bellevue Terrace Lawn.

The use of memorials, trees and other park infrastructure (e.g. park benches) for fitness training is prohibited (excluding the DNA Tower).

The use of fitness equipment is subject to written approval of the Authority. Gym apparatus such as bench press, rowing machines, stepper or weight bar are not permitted.
