Maintaining Kings Park and continuing its work involves hundreds of people, many of them volunteer members of the Friends of Kings Park.
The Friends of Kings Park was established in 1993 to involve the community in its vision for Kings Park and Botanic Garden as a special place for people and plants. The objective of the Friends of Kings Park is to assist Kings Park and Botanic Garden in achieving its mission by encouraging interest and public input through:
- Membership
- Education and publication
- Preserving cultural heritage
- Active participation in conservation, bush land management and horticulture
- Assisting research
- Promotion and publicity
- Raising funds for special projects such as the Lotterywest Federation Walkway and Lotterywest Family Area project and redevelopment.
The Friends of Kings Park currently has in excess of 800 members who support the Park through their membership subscriptions. About 200 members regularly volunteer their time and efforts to assist in fundraising, growing native plants, bush land restoration and research.
The Friends are people who have a strong affinity with Kings Park and who value the park as an integral part of our lifestyle. If you are such a person, join up! As a member of the Friends, you can be assured that your membership investment is helping to fund vital research and the development of park facilities. We look forward to welcoming you!
