10 simple steps to help native plants thrive in your garden

  1. Choose or prepare your planting site so it is free of weeds, well drained and does not have high levels of phosphorous.

  2. Install an efficient watering system such as trickle irrigation.

  3. Choose the right plant to suit your garden conditions from an accredited nursery.

  4. Plant from autumn to early spring for best results in areas that have winter rains.

  5. Fertilise lightly with slow release fertiliser suitable for Australian Plants.

  6. Mulch up to 50mm deep while keeping the mulch away from the base of the plants.

  7. Maintain the garden weed free to make space and nutrients available to plants.

  8. Prune established plants after flowering.

  9. Prune young plants regularly and lightly to develop good form.
