This precinct offers informal picnic and family recreation opportunities.

The Kessel Arboretum, featuring pine trees planted in the Great Depression as well as diverse Australian eucalypts, a small amphitheatre and open air stage, and the Ernst Wittwer Playground are all situated in this precinct. A walk also traverses either side of Saw Avenue with artworks along the way, including a Nyoongar Aboriginal garden and a sundial garden.

Ernst Wittwer was the chief nurseryman at Kings Park from 1968 to 1970, and later Superintendent from 1970-1984. He designed the Playground, which was subsequently named after him, and it was constructed in 1974 using pine poles and logs. The original playground has undergone some changes over the years including an upgrade to the play equipment and installation of artwork in 1996.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Park, this area includes wood BBQs, toilet facilities and a small play area. Wood fired BBQ's are available for use on a first come and share basis. These BBQ's are not available on days of extreme fire danger, which are determined by the Bureau of Meteorology (refer to WA fire weather warning).
