| Fraser Avenue - Tree Planting |

A significant tree planting occurred on 9 April 2008 in Kings Park and Botanic Garden to replant nine of the ceremonial trees lining Fraser Avenue. On July 1 2007, a winter storm hit Perth and tornado force winds created havoc within the Fraser Avenue precinct. It caused severe damage to some of the Lemon Scented Gums (Corymbia citriodora) that commemorate individuals who have made a significant contribution to the State of Western Australia. Nine trees that were irreparably damaged were subsequently removed for public safety. To celebrate the significance of the Fraser Avenue trees, the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority contacted descendants of the people honoured by the removed trees, to offer an opportunity for them to be involved in this significant replanting, guided by the Kings Park Arbor team and horticultural staff. The Hon David Templeman, Minister for the Environment, took part in the event and said "Although they have many years to catch up with the existing avenue specimens, I am confident that they will become equally majestic trees in the future." The ceremonial trees were replaced in honour of the following people, who served in important community and Government roles in the early part of last century:
1. Hon J.W. Kirwan MLC, President Legislative Council
