Research Interests:
- Seed storage physiology and longevity.
- Ecophysiology of seed germination and dormancy.
- Seed ecology.
- Conservation biology and restoration ecology.
Academic Background:
I have been studying seed biology since 1997, when I completed a BSc (Hons) at The University of Western Australia (UWA) with an honours project focussed on cryostorage of seeds of Australian species. I subsequently completed a PhD at UWA and BGPA in 2002, undertaking research on seed storage physiology of Australian species. I have since been employed as a Research Scientist at BGPA (2001 – 2004) and as a Research Fellow at UWA (2004 – 2006). In my current position as a Research Scientist at BGPA (2007 – ), I manage the seed science programs. These programs are broadly focussed on improving the use of native seeds in conservation and restoration. I hold an Adjunct Senior Lecturer position at UWA, and co-ordinate a fourth year undergraduate course in Conservation Biology and Restoration Ecology.
My research interests are centred on seed banking, seed dormancy and germination, and seed ecology. I am particularly interested in the integration of these sub-disciplines of seed science and how these research areas inform seed banking for conservation and restoration.
