Background:
Keran is the Technical Support with the Conservation Biotechnology group and works with the tissue culture and cryogenic collection in the laboratory at Kings Park & Botanic Garden. Qualified with Certificate in Horticulture from TAFE in 1984. Specialised in the horticulture and public display of northern and desert flora of Western Australia (Display Glasshouses). From 1991 to 1995 assisted with the Horticultural Advisory service and the production of the inaugural Kings Park & Botanic Garden Bushland Management Plan. In 1996 helped start the Visitor Services section with volunteer training, management of the Wildflower Festival, and the Schools education program. Has been with the Science Directorate from 1997 to present and has developed her skills in tissue culture, cryostorage and general laboratory methods and procedures. Keran has many years of experience in the horticultural care of micropropagated plants for restoration projects. She is also involved in other duties at KP&BG, including micropropagation of selected endangered plants for research and teaching purposes, and for display at the Kings Park Wildflower Festival and other events.
Work interests:
Reversing the oft-held view that bush plants are boring. Working with restoration and research programs. Looking out for plants that have garden potential and working with volunteers and the Friends of Kings Park Plant Sale group.
