The Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority is constantly evolving and improving. We seek funding from diverse sources to strengthen our ability to provide the community with a world-class botanic garden, beautiful parkland and pristine bushland.

Private funding allows us to remain at the forefront of horticulture and conservation, community education, and recreational services and facilities. You can provide funds that the Authority will apply to its current priority areas, or you can make a specific request about where your support is directed.

The Authority has a program of priority projects that require funding support, including:

Western Australian community benefit

Environmental education

Primary school education program To increase engagement with Western Australian primary school students.
Community education program To increase engagement with adults regarding environmental conservation.
Kings Park Festival To increase engagement with the general community on the importance of Western Australia’s native flora.
Naturescape in Kings Park To increase engagement with children to connect directly with nature.
Waste recycling and management Encouraging the community to participate in waste recycling within Kings Park and Bold Park.

Science research and conservation projects

Restoration Seed Bank A state-wide conservation initiative to create a state–of-the-art Seed Bank that will provide a repository for the Authority’s conservation and restoration programs. A one-stop shop for conservation and restoration organisations storing seed.
DNA Bank Build a world class facility for the storage of Western Australian flora DNA.
Post-graduate Summer Scholarships To train Western Australia’s next generation of plant conservation scientists
PhD Scholarships To build public knowledge and leverage plant conservation research. Award high quality students with a prestigious PhD scholarship.
Distinguished Scholar Scheme To stimulate industry discussion and activity by bringing together world expertise. Develop the skills and knowledge of local scientists and builds capacity in the areas of conservation science and biodiversity restoration.

Nursery redevelopment  To improve the Authority’s plant development program.
Bushland track upgrade To improve community access to the bushland.
Community recreational and infrastructure projects
King Park Entry Statements To create an attractive formal entry into Kings Park, enhancing Kings Park’s appeal as a major tourist destination.
Bushland Entry Statement To increase community access to and appreciation for the bushland.
Kings Park Lights Increases evening visitation to the park. Enhances Kings Park’s appeal as a major tourist destination.
Upgrade of play areas Lotterywest Family Area, Hale Oval, Saw Avenue Picnic Area, Synergy Parkland
Upgrade of community infrastructure Provide pathways, shelters, convenience facilities to a very high standard.
Refurbishment of heritage buildings
Subiaco Lodge Restoration of this historic building will be a significant addition to the cultural heritage of Kings Park. It will improve the aesthetic entry to Kings Park from Subiaco.
Kings Park Rotundas Increase public use of the rotunda overlooking Perth city. Upgrade of 1899 heritage structures in line with Kings Park’s Conservation Plan.
Concert shell Increase community enjoyment of concerts and events at the Pioneer Women’s Memorial Fountain.
Saw Avenue Tearooms Reconstruction of original 1905 tearoom structure in Kings Park as a pavilion for community use.
2015 Botanic Garden 50th Anniversary projects
Kings Park Entry statement To promote enjoyment and understanding of the Western Australian Botanic Garden.
Conservation Garden To inspire interest in and action to conserve biodiversity. In particular, the garden is used to education young children of the importance of conservation.
Botanists’ staircase To increase community awareness and appreciation of the Botanic Garden and understanding of botany.
New Pavilion To provide a much-needed additional community shelter for public use.
Extension to Lotterywest Federation Walkway To develop greater community appreciation of the Botanic Garden with a new link between the Law Walk to the DNA Tower.
Refurbishment of heritage pavilion To encourage greater community use of rotunda two.
Upgrade of 1900 heritage structures in line with Kings Park’s Conservation Plan.
Publication of plant catalogue To improve industry and community awareness and understanding of the plants currently cultivated in Kings Park and Botanic Garden. The plant catalogue will of historic significance in years to come.
Online database To improve community access to plant displays in the Botanic Garden.
Indigenous interpretive heritage walk To increase community awareness and understanding of the rich Australian Indigenous history and culture in Kings Park.
Ephemeral art exhibition To increase community engagement and understanding and interpretation of botany through an ephemeral art installation.
New gold kangaroo paw plant To encourage community engagement in the understanding of native plant species and Kings Park’s role in plant development.
Educational nodes To develop community engagement in a subtle and unique way.
Advise to local Councils to set up botanic gardens To build industry understanding of WA’s biodiversity and conservation techniques.
Celebratory events and activities To strengthen the profile for the State’s Botanic Garden in Kings Park. To build community engagement for the 50th Anniversary celebrations.
