The Council of Heads of Australian Botanic Gardens (CHABG) consists of the Directors of the Australian capital-city botanic gardens. It offers a broader forum for promoting the interests and activities of Australian public gardens generally, such as the national climate strategy. CHABG seeks to enhance the status of botanic and public gardens for the benefit of the Australian community.

The national climate change strategy referred to above includes:
- Prioritising and coordinating seed bank collection, an enduring safety net for our plant genetic resources and an an investment against species loss.
- Priorities for living collections.
- A coordinated national education campaign for the 13.4 million visitors a year.
