A memorial to honour Australian servicemen and women who fought in the Korean War has been given in-principle by the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority Board of Management.

Grevillea preissii subsp glabrilimba

The proposal from the Korean War Memorial Committee had support from several key stakeholders including the RSLWA and will honour the thousands of Australian servicemen and women who served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.

The Korean War Memorial Committee has now begun fundraising for the memorial, with the design led by the BGPA in collaboration with the Korean War Memorial Committee and other key stakeholders. A location for the memorial is yet to be confirmed.

The memorial will symbolise and celebrate the sacrifice and service of and commemorate an event of state and national importance. Final approval from the BGPA Board will be dependent on the location and final design of the memorial.

The BGPA looks forward to working with the Korean War Memorial Committee on this significant initiative which will have a lasting impact on the people, culture and history of Western Australia.
