Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority is pleased to welcome the 2021-22 Kings Park Science Summer Scholars.
Five talented science students from Western Australian universities received the coveted scholarships, which are each worth $7000. These scholarships are generously supported by the Friends of Kings Park Fund.
This year's scholarship recipients are Jess Overton, Sharalene Balasupramaniyam, Amanda Kelleher, Melissa Blake, and Kyle Robertson. Over the next twelve weeks, they will be investigating seed ecology and storage, plant restoration, cryopreservation techniques, and conservation genomics.
Now in its 17th year, the summer scholarship program has enabled more than 100 talented science students to spend their summer working alongside experienced researchers from Kings Park Science.
The scholarships offer students the chance to hone their practical research skills and learn from BGPA's research staff based in Kings Park. The scholarship experience will prove invaluable, especially if the Scholars choose to pursue postgraduate studies in Honours, Masters or PhDs.
