Fugro has generously renewed their partnership with the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA) to bring another three years of the very popular ‘Noongar Boodja’ education program to Kings Park.

P1177863small editOn Tuesday 7 March 2023, BGPA - Kings Park Education and Fugro celebrated the renewed support with a launch of the 2023 Noongar Boodja program. Attendees included special guests, staff and volunteers. All were treated to a bushtucker morning tea and an array of cultural activities as plans for the 2023 program were revealed.

Aboriginal Education Officer Cyril Yarran says “Fugro’s support offers low socio-economic schools a chance to come and experience the Noongar Boodja program when they wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity”

The Noongar Boodja Six Seasons program enhances respect for Aboriginal people, appreciation for diversity in our community and a sense of responsibility for caring for our natural environment.

It is an opportunity to “teach the next generation of school students coming through to interact and get involved in the Noongar culture” Cyril says.

This program is held in the Kings Park Education centre and Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park for the primary school students of Perth. Ranging from year 1 to year 6, students participate in cultural activities traditionally associated with the six seasons. Noongar presenters share their knowledge including plant uses for food and medicine, hunting, language, art, dance and traditional games.

The program has proved incredibly popular with students and schools alike. Without the support of Fugro such programs would not be possible.

Noongar Boodja begins in April with Bunuru and Djeran.
