Can you make a nest and a special egg to go inside?
Not all eggs look the same. Check out the slideshow showing some examples of swan, raven, magpie, emu and brown honeyeater eggs.
Birds use lots of different materials to build their nests like, twigs, leaves, spider’s silk, mud, bark and feathers. Some birds even use plastic and wire!
Right, let’s get creative!
What to do:
Step 1: Choose an egg to design from the pictures in the slideshow or design your own.
Step 2: Draw an egg, looking at your chosen picture, or design your own.
Step 3: Cut out your egg shape (be careful as scissors are sharp).
Step 4: Explore your area and look for natural materials to build your nest.
Step 5: Arrange or weave your natural materials into a circle shape, like a nest.
Step 6: Line your nest with some natural soft material from your garden.
Step 7: Add your egg to its new nest.
Tips: check out some beautiful Australian birds and their eggs in the slideshow above! Have you seen any of those birds where you live?
