Let’s make a Frilled Dragon collage!

Make your own frill dragon collage!View image slideshow

What to do:

  • Step 1: Print out our Frilled Dragon picture - or use your own one. Check out the slideshow to help you with the steps below.

  • Step 2: Find a piece of recycled card and concertina fold it to look like the dragon’s frill.

How to do a concertina fold – fold back and forwards in a zig zag pattern so it folds out like a fan.

  • Step 3: Cut your frill edge into a wave shape and cut some little triangle shapes on the edge to look like the points of the dragon’s frill.

  • Step 4: Stick your frill to the dragon picture with glue (PVA or a hot glue gun glue works best).

  • Step 5: Find some old newspapers and magazines. Look at the colours on your dragon picture. Rip out coloured pages from your newspaper or magazine that match the colours of the dragon on your picture.

  • Step 6: Squirt some PVA glue on to the area of your dragon where you will be working first. Spread the glue out with a paintbrush or your finger and start sticking your ripped coloured paper onto the picture.

  • Step 7: Work on one area at a time matching the colour of the picture with your ripped paper.

  • Step 8: Rip some little strips of paper to make feet and claws! How many toes does a Frilled Lizard have?

  • Step 9: Use some liquid paper or white paint to highlight bits of the face. Use a black felt pen to outline features like the nostrils and eyes to make them stand out!

  • Step 10: When you have finished your collage, paint it with a light layer of glue to help seal your work.

Don’t forget to sign your artwork somewhere! You can make you own super awesome artist signature - it doesn’t have to be your full name.

Tips:

  • When adding your pieces of paper to the collage, make them different sizes to match the different shapes and sizes of the dragon’s scales and frill.
  • When your work is completely dry, use a felt pen to draw over the eye to make it stand out. Or pop on a googly eye!
  • Once you finish you dragon collage, you might like to cut it out and glue it to a plain piece of card.
