Kings Park Education is a popular destination for school excursions and community programs.

Please take care when selecting your program and booking date as some, or all, of the fee may still apply if you chose to cancel the booking.

Education and Learning programs and special events

If you do decide to cancel the booking, please provide at least 30 days’ notice for a regular school program and 60 days’ notice for special school events (Nyoongar Boodja Six Seasons, National Science Week, STEM Action Week, Wild about Wildflowers or Party in the Park), so we can offer another group the opportunity to visit.

Unless there are exceptional circumstances, if you do not provide the required notice the minimum booking fee ($150.00 per class for a regular school program or $180.00 per class for a school event) will apply. Schools that do not provide any notice of cancellation and fail to attend on the day will be charged the full booking fee.

Kings Park and Botanic Garden is an outdoor venue and programs will go ahead in most weather conditions. In cases of severe weather, a Total Fire Ban, Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger ratings, Kings Park Education programs and events may be cancelled prior to or on the day of the excursion by the Botanic Garden and Parks Authority. In this instance the BGPA will contact all booked groups. If the program cannot be rescheduled a full refund will be provided.

In cases of a Total Fire Ban, Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger ratings, Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park will be closed to all visitors. Booked Kings Park Education programs will be moved and access to Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park will not be permitted. In this instance schools have the option to use other areas of Kings Park for nature based / self-guided activities or reschedule their booking, subject to availability.

If your Education program has to be cancelled by the Botanic Garden and Parks Authority on a particular date, we will contact you to reschedule your booking. A refund will be issued if the program cannot be rescheduled.

Bookings are essential for all excursions to Kings Park, including guided and self-guided programs and special events. Bookings are also required for all informal visits by school groups (including picnics and playtime) to ensure your safety in an emergency.

We recommend making your booking at least one month in advance, due to the popularity of our programs.

Community programs

Kings Park Education and Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park are popular destinations for community programs, including Zippy’s Bush Kindy Kings Park, school holiday programs and adult/family workshops.

Refunds are not available in most circumstances once a booking has been made.

If you cannot attend your booked program, you may be able to reschedule your booking subject to availability. Please contact the Education Bookings Officer

If you cannot attend a Nearer to Nature school holiday program because of illness, please contact the Education Bookings Officer. No other cancellations will be accepted.  

In cases of a Severe Weather Warning, Total Fire Ban, Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger ratings, the public areas of Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park will be closed to all visitors. Community programs may be moved and access to the public areas of Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park will not be permitted. You will receive notification via email of any changes to your program.

If your booking cannot be rescheduled a full refund will be provided.

Mounts Bay Road share path detours

The City of Perth will be undergoing works on the shared path along Mounts Bay Road from Thursday 23 March until Monday 8 May 2023. Detours through Kings Park will be in place.

Concert traffic interruptions

Road and carpark closures will occur in Kings Park and Botanic Garden on Saturday 25 March 2023 due to a concert event.

School Ball parking

Temporary parking on Fraser Avenue will not be provided for buses, limos and cars, and fines will apply.
