All homes have treasures – you just have to find them!
Let’s make a treasure box and a magnifying glass and go on an adventure!
How to make a treasure box:
-
Step 1: Reuse an old egg carton as your treasure box.
-
Step 2: Colour and decorate the carton (but not the top, as that is where you will be gluing your treasure map).
-
Step 3: Get some paper to draw your map and cut it out to fit on top of your treasure box.
-
Step 4: Next, find six items (or 12 items if you want to do a big treasure hunt) to be your treasures.
-
Step 5: Think about locations where you can hide your treasures in your garden.
-
Step 6: Draw pictures of the locations and mark the spot on your treasure map with an X.
How to make a magnifying glass:
-
Step 1: Reuse some cardboard and draw the shape of a magnifying glass. Make sure it is big enough for you to hold.
-
Step 2: Cut around your shape – be careful as scissors are sharp.
-
Step 3: Now you can look for treasures and discover other things in your garden.
Now the fun part – how to go on a treasure hunt:
-
Step 1: Find a family member (maybe mum or dad) to look for your hidden treasures.
-
Step 2: Hide your treasures in the locations you have shown on your map, while making sure the other person isn’t watching!
-
Step 3: Give them the map to find the treasures and fill up the treasure box.
-
Step 4: How did they do? Were they super-seekers or hopeless hunters?
-
Step 5: Why not explore your garden to find some new treasures.
Tips:
- Do you want to make your map look really old? Make a tea stain to paint onto your paper.
- Look at the treasure box in the picture to get ideas for your locations.
