In October 2015 the WA Botanic Garden celebrated its golden anniversary - 50 years of magnificent living collections for all to admire.

The Western Australian Botanic Garden is a beautiful place to visit at any time of the year, but in October there is a new attraction to fall in love with: the Botanic Terraces and Botanic Pavilion.

A beautiful 50th Anniversary

Situated near the entry to the Western Australian Botanic Garden, this Anniversary Adventure takes you to the Botanic Terraces and Botanic Pavilion. Two beautifully crafted dry Kimberley stone walls greet you with their earthy palette of muted creams, through to pastel pink and purple. The Terraces then cascade down the scarp to the impressively designed split-level pavilion at the base.

This contemporary new feature complements the existing park landscape and views of the river, incorporating artwork inspired by the exploration of WA flora. Endemic plants, Aboriginal designs and whimsical words lead you on this journey down the Terraces.

As you make your way down, notice the surrounding garden beds that are home to the flora of the Mallee, Mulga and Desert regions of Western Australia. The signature species are the showy eucalypts of these rugged regions, including Large-fruited Mallee (Eucalyptus youngiana), Kingsmill’s Mallee (Eucalyptus kingsmillii) and Coolibah (Eucalyptus victrix).

Alternative universal access is available via a pathway from the Giant Boab, Gija Jumulu, near Forrest Carpark, that leads to the Botanic Pavilion.

The Botanic Terraces officially opened to the public on Sunday 4 October 2015 to mark the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Western Australian Botanic Garden in 1965. This project was an initiative of the Friends of Kings Park with the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority, generously supported by Lotterywest.
