Event information
Kings Park plays a ceremonial role in the lives of Western Australians because of the high concentration of war memorials in the park. Take a walk with a Kings Park Guide among some of these memorials and discover aspects of Australian participation in the war years.
During the walk, you might:
- hear tales of major battles from the Boer War or the role of the 10th Lighthorse Regiment in Palestine in WWI
- learn how the enthusiastic amateurs at Gallipoli became skilled warriors on the Western Front, led by General Sir John Monash, regarded by some as Australia’s greatest soldier
- see the Kokoda Track memorial, which commemorates the desperate battle by untrained young conscripts in New Guinea to defend Australia from the advancing Japanese army
- explore the State War Memorial precinct, the scene of moving ceremonies every Anzac Day.
This walk is part of the Lotterywest Boorloo Heritage Festival.
