Event information

2025 marks the 60th anniversary of the Western Australian Botanic Garden, the centrepiece of Kings Park.

Join special guest Digby Growns, Kings Park’s Senior Plant Breeder, for an intimate conversation discussing the special 60th anniversary release of the ‘White Diamond’ waxflower, along with insights into other new plant releases that are revolutionising the cut flower industry and native gardens alike.

Kings Park’s plant development program, currently led by Digby, is the only botanic garden program in the world to focus on breeding native plants for horticultural use. Digby’s plant development work spans 30 years and has brought over 50 highly decorative and environmentally friendly plant varieties to retail markets.

The waxflower (Chamelaucium) project has been a major success for the program, with 23 commercial cultivars released globally. Cut flowers and flowering pots from these cultivars have been distributed throughout the Europe, Australia and the USA.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from one of Australia’s leading plant breeders about the science that brings beautiful and commercially successful new plants to life.
