Rapier Featherflower

A compact, spreading shrub that bursts with bright red fringed blooms.

A spreading shrub 20 - 75cm in height to 3m in width with one basal stem quickly becoming widely branched. Flowers are bright red and pendulous with a distinctive ‘woolly’ skirt-like sepal, recognised as being a feather flower. Flowers are arranged in open raceme-like groups and put on a spectacular display from August to December. 

Grow it at home

  • A great plant for container gardening
  • Use a native free-draining potting mix, plant in full sun and water while establishing then reduce to occasional watering
  • Prune after flowering to maintain overall health and form
  • Reliable water-wise plant that is low maintenance, but a great performer
  • Will thrive in full sun, dry and arid conditions once established
  • Can be used for cut flowers
  • Beautiful floral display, very ornamental and a desirable species for the home garden or verge front.

This species can be found in the trial garden near the Biodiversity Conservation Centre and in the gardens along Forrest Drive opposite the DNA Tower.

Out in the wild

This species can be found in the Koorda - Lake King area in sandplain heath and shrublands.
