Calothamnus quadrifidus prostrate form

One-sided Bottlebrush

Low growing hardy shrub offers a prostrate form of the One-sided Bottlebrush.

Flowers are in bright red claw-like bundles resembling bottle brushes on one side of the stem from June to December. The nectar producing flowers are sure to attract birds and native wildlife. The foliage is thin and abundant bearing lots of hair, giving it a soft appearance.

In cultivation, this species tends to creep outward before gradually forming a compact, multi‑stemmed dome. When in bloom, flashes of red flowers appear nestled throughout the dense, intertwining foliage. This is a waterwise resilient species that is sure to fill and utilise unused space in the home garden or on the verge.

Grow it at home

  • Attractive shrub for a sunny position with well-draining soil
  • Effective ground cover in those hard to fill and establish areas
  • Low maintenance species that has adapted to Perth’s nutrient poor soils
  • Habitat plant for ground dwelling fauna and a food source for native bird life
  • A perfect species when considering a native verge front.

Find it in Kings Park

This species can be found in The Lodge garden, the Northern Wheatbelt collection and Wadjuk carpark surrounding gardens (near the bus stop).

Out in the wild

This species is a prostrate coastal form of a usually more upright common species, Calothamnus quadrifidus.
