Botanic Gardens Week, running from 18-24 May 2026, is an annual celebration highlighting the role of plants in our lives and the important work botanic gardens and arboreta undertake every day to conserve them for future generations.

The majestic tree-lined Honour Avenues are an iconic feature of Kings Park, and a significant memorial space for West Australians who made the ultimate sacrifice in war. However, as the number of visitors to Kings Park increases, so do problems for our trees. 

The Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority is proud to announce that Sue McDougall, Director of the Western Australian Botanic Garden, has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours.

Botanic Gardens Week, running from 19–25 May, is a chance to recognise the vital role that botanic gardens play in conserving plants, combatting biodiversity loss, and strengthening our connection with nature.  

Restoration of the Mount Eliza Escarpment is well underway, with reprofiling of the slope and new native planting taking place over the coming months.
